Did imagine on initially seeing them they may not very last prolonged and i imagined there would be a weak spot where the join is, but time has proved me erroneous on that rating. Been utilizing two of these because i bought them in early august with no indicator of use and no reduction of tautness either. They are quite thick, but i guess that is what would make them so secure.Exceptional value, very solid. Share Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest A mild winter was just right to create conditions for a higher incidence of the marestail weed on farm fields this year, a Purdue University weed specialist says.Farmers need to do what they can to gain control of it early in the planting season, said Travis Legleiter, weed science program specialist in the Department of Botany and Plant Pathology.“As we go into spring, I think farmers need to be aware of how much marestail is in their fields,” Legleiter said. “I think this spring we may have more marestail, or marestail that’s further advanced in its growth stage, than we’ve had in the past.”An effective burndown is the best method to control a marestail infestation, said Legleiter, who advises farmers to use herbicides other than 2,4-D and glyphosate.Along with marestail, farmers should be aware of giant ragweed, Palmer amaranth and waterhemp.Identification is key to fighting weed infestation. Resources for identification are available in publications from the Purdue Extension Education Store at www.edustore.purdue.edu, including the 2016 Weed Control Guide for Ohio, Indiana and Illinois (search for product code WS-16-W) and Palmer Amaranth Biology, Identification and Management (product code WS-51).Legleiter advises farmers to scout fields regularly and clean equipment, especially when moving between fields with heavy weed populations but also between fields with small or no weed populations.“We consider combines to be one of the biggest contributors to the spread of seeds,” Legleiter said. “Everything a farmer can do to keep the weeds spreading from one field to the next is going to be beneficial.”When using herbicides, Legleiter stresses the importance of applying them while the weeds are 2-4 inches tall for optimal effectiveness. Not only is it important to apply early, but also applying a mixture of herbicides with different sites of action is best for resistance management. Sites of action refer to where, on a molecular level, the herbicide affects the weed. Many herbicides have the same site of action, so it is important that farmers use herbicides that have different sites of action. Farmers can use the Herbicide Classification chart, found at http://bit.ly/1Mj6IfC, to aid in choosing different sites of actions herbicides.“If you’re using the same site of action multiple times in a year, year after year, you’re just selecting for the weeds that are resistant to that herbicide,” Legleiter said. “When you use multiple sites of action, where one might fail the other can pick up.”Legleiter recommends using as many herbicides with different action sites as possible and not applying those with the same sites of action more than three times in a year.
The Rise and Rise of Mobile Payment Technology Tags:#mobile#news#NYT#web frederic lardinois Role of Mobile App Analytics In-App Engagement Related Posts What it Takes to Build a Highly Secure FinTech … According to Gartner, the worldwide market for mobile devices with touchscreens will grow over 97% this year. Last year, consumers bought 184 million devices with touchscreens. Gartner predicts that this market will surpass 362 million units this year. By 2013, Gartner predicts, touchscreen mobile devices will account for 80% of all sales in North America and Europe. Once the domain of high-end devices, touchscreen are now finding their ways into midrange phones and a growing number of consumers now expects all of their screens to be touch-enabled.As Gartner analyst CK Lu notes, a touchscreen alone won’t be enough to convince users to buy a specific phone, however. According to Lu, “Consumers won’t buy a mobile device purely for the touch UI, Touch technology is just an enabler, and ultimately, it is a compelling user experience — which includes good UI design, applications and services — that will make or break a product.” Indeed, Gartner advised manufacturers to double down on their efforts to create good touch-driven UIs. While Gartner doesn’t mention the iPhone explicitly, it is clear that Apple’s popular phone has set the standard for touch-driven UIs and most manufacturers are still struggling to catch up. Bonus: What Does the Mobile, Touch-Friendly Web Look Like Today? The mobile web, according to a new report from mobile search engine Taptu, is currently all about shopping and services. Taptu – which specializes in indexing mobile sites – surveyed about 326,000 sites that are optimized for mobile, finger-friendly browsing and found that the largest concentration of these sites falls into Taptu’s “shopping and services” category. In total, Taptu found 83,000 mobile-enabled commerce sites, ranging from mobile shopping assistants to banks and mobile real estate sites.According to Taptu, mobile shopping and services sites make up close to 25% of all mobile-friendly sites in the company’s index, followed by sites in the “photo and design” category (17.7%). Social sites rank third with 9.2%. Personal blogs only make up 1.5% of Taptu’s index, a number if is easily bested by adult sites, which account for 3% of all mobile-optimized sites. It’s worth noting that if we combine news and weather sites (3.3%) together with sites about world affairs (8.1%), this category would easily fall into Taptu’s top 3. Just in time for Independence Day, actors Edward James Olmos and Bellamy Young — along with their dogs — have teamed up with PETA for two new videos that urge families to protect their animal companions during fireworks displays.Video: Bellamy Young: Keep Animals Calm and Safe While ‘Bombs Burst in Air’In her video, Young points out that, while fireworks are fun for humans, they’re terrifying for dogs like her beloved Bean. “The deafening blasts sound to them like actual ‘bombs bursting in air,’” says the Scandal star, “and they cause many animals to run away—sometimes breaking through screen doors or windows, or even jumping or frantically climbing over high fences, only to be injured, struck by a vehicle, or lost and never found.”Video: Edward James Olmos Says Fireworks Displays Are No ‘Blast’ for AnimalsIn his video, which he recorded in Spanish and English, Olmos adds that his dog Moe “loves a good celebration, especially if it involves treats and chewy toys, but not if it involves fireworks, firecrackers, or gunshots.” That’s why the Blade Runner 2049 star joins Young in encouraging families to take precautions such as staying home with animal companions, closing the blinds, and using the TV or a loud fan to block the noise from outside.

OSU lost, 3-0.Credit: Courtesy of FacebookThe Ohio State field hockey team struggled as it finished a road trip to Syracuse, N.Y., with an 0-2 record. The Buckeyes fell short to No. 7 Massachusetts Saturday and then again Sunday to No. 6 Syracuse. Both games ended with a score of 1-0. Although the team came out on the losing end in both games, OSU coach Anne Wilkinson said it was not due to their efforts.“We played great field hockey overall,” Wilkinson said. “We just couldn’t put the ball in the net.”Both games were scoreless in the first half, but the Buckeyes gave up a single second half goal in each, falling to 2-4 on the year.During Sunday’s match, junior goalkeeper Sarah Lemieux had eight saves against Syracuse. After back-to-back saves by Lemieux, Syracuse was able to score on a penalty corner with just over four minutes to go in the game.Wilkinson said she was impressed with her goalkeeper, but wishes the team could have taken advantage of the defense it played.“I think we had great defense,” Wilkinson said. “Sarah (Lemieux) had a lot of great saves during crucial times.”Lemieux said the defense as whole played well, despite the losses.“I thought we played solid defense the whole weekend. We made huge efforts to tackle to ball and stop them from scoring.”In Saturday’s match UMass outshot the Buckeyes 10-8. OSU had more opportunities with the penalty corners, 6-5, but could not capitalize on them to finish the game. The match against Syracuse was much more one-sided, despite the Orange failing to open the scoring until the 66th minute. The home side out shot the Buckeyes 20-6, including 9 shots on goal.Sophomore midfield Emma Royce provided the best chance in the first half for the Buckeyes but was denied by the Syracuse sophomore goalkeeper Jess Jecko.OSU is set to take on Miami(Ohio) Wednesday in Oxford at 5:30 p.m.
