US Producing Record Gallons of Biodiesel But Imports Also Increasing

first_imgThe Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently released final 2016 biodiesel and renewable diesel numbers. The numbers show that the U.S. is producing record gallons of American made biodiesel, however foreign imports of biodiesel and renewable diesel are capturing over a third of the market, limiting the potential for additional economic benefits to U.S. producers.Highlights of the final 2016 production numbers included:U.S. domestic biodiesel production reached 1.8 billion gallons, up from 1.4 billion gallons in 2015Total biodiesel and renewable diesel utilization in U.S. reached 2.9 billion gallons, up from 2.1 billion gallons in 2015Imports increased to over 1 billion gallons of biodiesel and renewable diesel, up from 670 million gallons in 2015The American Soybean Association (ASA) is actively engaged with industry partners on the U.S. EPA’s implementation of the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) and urging Congress to extend and restructure the biodiesel tax credit to promote further domestic biodiesel production. These efforts will continue in 2017 with the new Administration and Congress, which is seeking to enact comprehensive tax reform.last_img
